Not in a carnal sense mind you, but rather in a wacko Capitalist sense.

Let's review. We spend millions to subsidize independent farmers.

We then waste the surplus, flood other countries with it (dissuading them from growing their own), or find some cockamamie way to use it at home.

Case in point: Corn- bullshit 'fuel alternative' that's contributing to a global food price hike, and a strong force behind American obesity and diabetes.

Continue, et al.

Why do we continue to pay to support an enterprise that is obviously faltering?

Give me a reason why keeping family farms alive is a pursuit I should support.

Note: Love and happiness are not valid reasons. Corporations can pay their day labor to love and market demands would force organic growth practices.

Saw this comment on a Mashable article (http://mashable.com/2008/05/01/rss-awareness-day/). It really sums up how the entire "savvy"-sphere is, much like the critics called the OG shoegaze scene, is a "Scene That Celebrates Itself."

i need to get some perspective because i find myself being shocked at how few people are aware of, and or using, basic things like rss, blogs, etc. yesterday an anchor on cnn(in her twenties)had never heard of twitter(let alone use it), and my initial reaction was shock, that she had to be living under a rock. evidently i'm living in a bubble.

I got assed out of a shower this morning and had to trudge to work unbathed, uncoifed, and um, unteefbrushed.

At the daily, morning, status meeting we have a row of chipper, work ready people and me.

My boss laughs and asks if I slept in a desert the night before. Upon hearing my story, he reminds me that we have a shower in the office.

One catch though, no towels.

And off I went to the local hotels to secure a towel and toiletries.

I obtain a travel kit and a $25 Hello Kitty towel (henceforth referred to as 'The Towel of Shame').

Despite the towel of shame and the Irish Spring soap, it's amazing how much better I feel.

Yesterday was miserably hot.

It seems that my office, which like most offices, is not climate controlled over the weekend, got so hot that it caused my yoga ball to EXPLODE.

As a reward for crazy hours and weekend work, the past couple of weeks, a number of us got today off from work.

A few years ago, fridays off were the norm for me, but now, it's quite a shock to the system.

Running around doing normal weekend things, I was flabbergasted by how many people were at the mall, shopping centers, whatever.

Was it like that before? I'm sure it was. The change is me.

lawdy, I enjoy diabetic snacks far too much.

No sugar and an artificial sweetener, Maltitol, which doesn't taste that fake or too sweet. Plus, since consuming it in excess can cause a 'laxative effect,' I have a serious reason not to gorge!

The Black Kites - local band that first heard doing a cover of Lucretia My Reflection.

I like the stuff. I plan to see them live (a shock in and of itself).

But they don't have any actual CDs yet, domestically. Instead, they have mp3 based EPs.

I paid money for an mp3. 320 bitrate, but still.

Thank god I was able to do it with Amazon - iTunes will never exist on my computer.
